Product Details

This is a wall art made with a vintage silk haori jacket from the 1970s.

This silk kimono fabric uses "katazome", a stencil-dyed technique. This technique is said to be originated back in the 7th century and by Edo period (1615 - 1867), the technique was sophisticated and versatile enough to use on "noragi", farmer's work clothes to wealthy townspeople and samurais. This fabric has various types of Chrysanthemum repeatedly stenciled in light and dark blue. Chrysanthemum ("kiku") is the seal of the Imperial family, and along with the cherry blossom, it is symbolically often used as the national flower by the Japanese people.

The fabrics we use are in excellent condition, though sometimes there are small marks, blemishes, and or creases indicative of the fabric's rich history. If you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message.

Material: Vintage Silk Kimono, wood and cotton canvas

Size:  10" (25 cm) x 10" (25 cm)

*Please keep this out of the direct sun to avoid fading of the colour.
